CSRA RESA completed a 4-day Inquiry-Based Learning for Social Studies Camp in June 2017! We explored a wide range of research-based instructional strategies, how to align our lessons with the GSE/SS Matrices/Literacy Standards, and spent two days planning outstanding lessons (based on a 5E Model) that infuse inquiry, literacy, and exploration into our History and Social Studies classes. We developed mini lessons, units, and 1-2 day content lessons.
Our first featured lesson plan was written by two third grade teachers in our area: Heather Sheron (3rd Grade - Columbia County) and Candy Candler (3rd Grade - McDuffie County).
Their lesson plan on Colonial America (SS3H3 - C) asks students to explore Colonial America from different perspectives. Students will explore a range of sources including readings, images, and videos to figure out what life was like for different people in that time period. Students will end the 10 day lesson by writing a postcard from the perspective of one of the people they studied over the previous week. All resources to complete this lesson in your class are included!
Thank you Mrs. Sheron and Mrs. Candler for working so hard and developing an engaging, challenging, and fun lesson!!!
