Post-Spring Break Social Studies Updates!

Good afternoon!

I hope you all have been well and have had a productive week working and learning from home! I wanted to send you some updates from our state Social Studies Leaders Meeting this morning.

But first, some updates from me: You will be receiving a new Bite-Sized PL from me next week, so be on the lookout on Monday! Also, please don't hesitate to reach out if I can help you with lessons, technology, ideas, or resources as you navigate this new online teaching and learning environment: cparten@csraresa.org.

SS State Updates:

1. The Picturing History Retreat for this summer has been RESCHEDULED for June 17-18, 2021. The GADOE SS Department is hoping to keep most, if not all, of the guest speakers and presenters they had for the retreat this year.

2. If your school or district needs Civic Engagement seals for diplomas please contact SS Program Director Joy Hatcher at jhatcher@doe.k12.ga.us

3. The Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE) WILL offer the AP Summer Institute, however, it will be online. You can register at www.gcee.org/workshops

4. Fall requests for workshops given by the GCEE are due by May 15th. If there is a GCEE workshop you would like for CSRA RESA to host, please let me know so that I can secure the sessions you are interested in!!! These workshops are free, the GCEE pays for subs, and you leave with resources you can use the next day in your classes.

5. The GCSS 2020 Conference scheduled for October 2020 has been CANCELLED due to the unknown future of the 2020-2021 school year and school calendars. The GCSS will most likely offer a bundle of virtual PL sessions with excellent speakers to those who renew their GCSS membership for this year.

6. Please check out the new resources at the GADOE SS page:

7. Two High School Elective Courses (1/2 credit courses) have been approved for PUBLIC COMMENT. I will send the link out to you when they are posted online!

A. Sports in American Society

B. Intelligence and National Security Studies
